Winter vacation is the time to snuggle up in the blanket, have hot delicious food and spend time with the family. It is also the time to start preparing for the final exams. I always look forward to this time of the year. Christmas and New Year add to the good vibes and make these vacations all the more enjoyable. With video chat, you can virtually gather with loved ones who may be far away and share the holiday spirit together, even if you can't be physically present. It's a wonderful way to bridge the distance and create memorable moments despite the chilly weather.

Points to Follow for Winter Trips

Know Before you go

Before anything else, it’s important to know where you’re going.Check the National Weather Service website for area road conditions, including regional winter weather advisories and storm watches, and download a good weather app to make sure you’re prepared.

Test your car's battery

Prepare Your Battery for Winter Your battery has a tough job during the cold winter months. Your vehicle’s engine requires more power to start when the temperatures are colder, and those temperatures make it harder for your battery to provide power. Before winter gets an icy grip on your battery, have your electrical system tested, including your battery and alternator.

Research your winter road trip route

Planning your route in advance will help you identify areas prone for snow, ice, or slippery terrain. Look for routes that take you close to bodies of water (hint: they sometimes cause roads to become icy due to condensation/mist); paved roads versus dirt roads; as well as roads that are often not plowed and/or shut down during major storms.

Pack an Emergency Kit in Case you Get Stuck

Blankets

Blankets will come in handy if your car breaks down and you have to wait for help in the cold. It will get cold fast if you can’t turn on your car’s heater. This is a great reason not to toss or donate your old bed linens when you redecorate.

First Aid Kit

You can purchase a prepared first aid kit or assemble your own. Make sure you have bandages, medical tape, antiseptic, scissors, disposable gloves, and tweezers. And, you need a first aid kit in your car all year around. If you don’t have one now is the time to get one. If you do have one, this is a great time to check things over and make sure you’re well stocked.

Extra Hat, Mittens, Warm Clothes

Sure, you’re wearing a winter jacket. But if you have to wait in a cold vehicle for any length of time, you’ll want a little extra warmth. Even if you’re not wearing them, make sure you’ve got an extra hat, mittens, scarf and sweatshirt for each person in your car. If you have to walk for help, you’ll be glad they’re there.

Don’t Drive Drunk

This is a no-brainer, but please, please, please don’t drive when intoxicated. Winter conditions are very demanding, and you need your wits about you and your reflexes at their best. There are a lot of holiday parties this time of year, and even if you aren’t attending them, others will be. Look out for other intoxicated drivers on the road.

Conclusion

In conclusion, winter vacations are a time for relaxation and preparation. It's important to embrace the colder weather and make the most of it. If you're planning a winter road trip, there are some important steps you should take to ensure your safety and comfort. These include researching your route, testing your car's battery, and packing an emergency kit with blankets, a first aid kit, and warm clothes. Most importantly, always remember to drive responsibly and never drive when intoxicated. With these precautions in mind, you can enjoy a fun and safe winter vacation.
